Rescue Story
We rescued Chica, along with 18 of her pasture mates, in early 2011. We were very new to ‘horse rescue,’ so it was a huge undertaking for us. Using our own funds and the support of our amazing local community, we rescued 19 of the 50-60 Pasos on that property.
Chica, like many of the others, was a papered Paso Fino. According to her registration papers, she is a 2005 baby, making her a 21 YO today. Her registered name is Le Chica de CCR.
The pictures tell the story of two people who would stop at nothing to save the lives of our local horses. They tell the story of just one of the very lucky horses who made her way to South West Florida Horse Rescue, Inc. 15 years ago!
Chica was adopted in March 2012 by Lois & Kenny. In March 2017, she had to come back to SWFHR due to medical issues with her adopters.
In July 2017, Chica went to training with Merchant Performance Horses, and in September she completed her training and came to SWFHR.
In September 2017, Chica rode out the devastating Hurricane Irma here with us at SWFHR.
In December 2017, Chica was adopted by Jean. In August 2026, she is back with us at South West Florida Horse Rescue, Inc.
We call this a full-circle moment.
While the perfect life for any horse would be to find their forever family and live the best life with that family, including well into their Golden Years, in reality that rarely happens, especially in adoptions. With that being said, we want to shout it from the rooftops that Chica has lived a fabulous life since being rescued in 2011. She had loving adopters for 5 years before coming back to SWFHR. She was loved and cared for by all of us and was adopted by a devoted Horse Mom who cherished her for 9 years. So, you see, when you look at the whole picture, you can clearly see that Chica is indeed one of the lucky ones.
