5th Annual Winter Wonderland Quarter Auction

On Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 12 PM to 3 PM, SWFHR will run a Quarter Auction hosted at The American Legion Post 336 off Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers!

See the map to the event location.

We will accept ticket Pre-Purchases until all seats are full or January 18th, whichever comes first.

The Legion has a limited seating capacity, therefore, we have to guarantee the number of patrons.  SWFHR has always taken the stance of not requiring fees to participate in any of their hosted events.  But in order to identify how many people are truly going to attend, a pre-purchase has been required to guarantee you a seat at the fundraiser.  For an initial fee of $15 paid prior to the date of the event you will be guaranteed a seat, receive a roll of quarter’s (at the door, valued at $10), and (2) free bidding paddle rentals (valued at $5).  So basically you will receive fair value back at the door with no admission.  This allows SWFHR to continue its stance on fees to its supporters.

A quarter auction is a cross between an auction & a raffle where people bid on items using numbered bidding paddles and a rate of quarters per paddle to bid on one item.  Unlike standard auctions at a quarter auction, you don’t have to increase a bid to win an item potentially.  Yet, like a raffle, your numbered paddle(s) is like your raffle ticket(s) where if you bid on an item and they call your number, you WIN.

You don’t have to keep increasing your bidding amount, enabling people to get valuable items for as little as .25,.50, .75, or $1.00 without spending large sums of money.   Quarter auctions are a great way to raise much-needed funds for our communities.

If you are new to SWFHR’s Quarter Auctions, here is how it works:

When you arrive, you need to rent at least one bidding paddle at the door. You can rent as many paddles as you like. Each paddle has a number and a corresponding poker chip. Once you decide how many paddles you want, we will hand you those paddles. Then, we will pull the corresponding numbered poker chip(s) to your bidding paddles and place them in a tumbler, similar to a Bingo spinner.

At the beginning of the auction, our MC will hold up the first item for bid. For instance, let’s say we hold up a $25 gift card to Outback Steakhouse. Our MC will ask for a specific number of quarters based on the item’s value. For example, the MC may ask for two quarters for this item. You can bid by putting two quarters in the bowl on your table and holding up your bidding paddle(s).

Note that if you have two or more paddles, you may bid for some or all of your paddles, provided that you put the same amount of quarters called for per bidding paddle for each of the ones you raise in the air. We have seen instances where someone only chose to bid with one of their paddles, and the number drawn was the number on the paddle they did not use. To avoid this, make sure to bid on all the paddles you have rented.

When the bidding is over, one of our runners will collect the bowl at your table, empty the quarters from the bowl, and turn them in. Once all runners have returned to the collection point, the MC will announce for the tumbler to stop spinning and draw a numbered poker chip. The number drawn must correspond to a current paddle in the air for a winner. If you have that number but haven’t raised that paddle, you cannot play it now. All paddles are to remain in the air until a winner is found. There is no more money to be added. We simply spin and pull until we have a winner. It may take a few times of drawing to do so.

For example, suppose you have four paddles, and you really want that $25 gift card. You can bid on all four paddles by putting eight quarters in the bowl. We will spin and draw one of your numbers. If you have the same number on a paddle that you have raised in the air, you win the $25 gift card for only $2!

This process continues until we run out of items. Our Quarter Auctions usually last for about 2 hours, and they are a lot of fun for the whole family!

Everyone attending the auction should bring plenty of quarters to bid. Of course, we will have quarters on standby. If you would like to donate an item(s) to SWFHR to offer up for bid at our next Quarter Auction or any fundraiser, please contact info@swfhr.org or call (239) 567-4111.
